NTL Survey Regarding Upcoming Contract Negotiations

Dear colleagues,

Good morning and here is hoping that each of you can relax and enjoy the summer break.
We have sent out a survey to Naugatuck Teachers’ League members in regards to the upcoming contract negotiations.  It is our hope that you will take a few minutes to complete the survey, indicating your priorities.  This survey is extremely important to the Negotiating Committee.
If you have not received the survey, it is probably because the personal e-mail we have is not a current e-mail address or we  do not have your personal e-mail address.  We cannot send the survey out through the District e-mail.
I am asking that you  please send a current home e-mail address to our CEA Uniserv Rep Jeff Mockler, his e-mail address is
Thanks and enjoy your much deserved summer break.
Take good care,
George Macary

Important Message from NTL President George Macary

George Macary and Melissa McInvale

Dear colleagues,

Hope you are enjoying the summer break
As you are aware the legislative session ended without agreement on a budget.
Our Connecticut Teacher Pension is funded jointly by the state and teachers, each contributes 6%.
There is a new plan to balance the budget; it calls for the State of Connecticut to shift 2% of their retirement obligation to the teachers.  This will have the state contributing 4% and the teachers contributing 8%.  This will not increase your retirement payout or the number of years to reach your max retirement benefit, but will reduce your take home pay. Basically another way of the state raising dollars to balance the budget but this revenue comes only from educators.
Please make sure that you contact your Connecticut State Senators and Representatives and voice your opinion about the plan to shift 2% to the teachers.
Please tell them NO.

Legislators have delayed today’s budget vote, giving you more time to speak out against actions that would hurt your students, your school, your retirement, and your future.

Your voice makes a difference, but your legislators have not heard from you. Contact them and tell them to

1)   Vote against any teacher retirement cost shift (shifting millions in costs from the state to the towns and putting pressure on school budgets)

2)   Vote against any increase in teacher pension contributions

3)   Vote against any cuts to ECS funding

In NAUGATUCK, only a handful of teachers have contacted the legislators who represent them. That leads legislators to believe the retirement issue is not important. You can change that. CLICK HERE and tell your legislators why they must vote against any attacks on students, teachers, and public education.
